International Horticulture Goyang Korea 2016 (Spring Flower Festival)

*Flower Gift Korea does not sell any of the products shown in the images and got most of the information in this blog from the Flower Festival website and our own experience.

Here is a Youtube Video of FlowerGiftKorea’s visit to the Goyang Flower Festival in Korea:

Flower Gift Korea had the opportunity to visit the flower festival happening in Goyang, Korea. It is officially called, “International Horticulture Goyang Korea”. However, I’ll refer to it as the Goyang Spring Flower Festival from here on. This is a great event for anyone to go to. When Flower Gift Korea went to this Spring Flower Festival, we saw families, couples, community groups, flower business people, and people enjoying their time their alone. So, it’s a great event for anyone to attend.

This festival is held at Lake Park, which is located in Ilsandong-gu which is in Gyeonggi-do, Korea. From Gangnam station, it took us about a 50 minute drive on a Saturday. You can also travel to Jeongbalsan subway station (정발산역) or Madu subway station (마두역) and walk 10 minutes to get to one of the exits. If you are going to take a bus, the closest bus stop to the Festival is, “Ilsandong District Office Station” 일산동구청 (중). According to their website, you can take buses 3300(ICN Airport), 33, 150 (Gimpo Airport), 1000, 2000, 9701, 9714 (Seoul Station), 9700, 9711 (Gangnam), 830, and 9707 (Yeongdeungpo). They are open from 9:00am – 9:00pm on weekdays and 9:00am – 10:00pm on weekends and holidays.

Below, you can see an image of the “Rose” parking lot. The water park in the background is separate from the flower festival, so don’t be too worried if you see it.

We personally drove to the Flower Festival and ended up parking pretty far from the actual place, but there are free shuttle buses that take you to where the flower festival is held. Also, it was free to park at the parking areas. When you get near the location, there should be signs that tell you where to park, but the signs are in Korean. We parked at the “Rose” 장미 Parking lot.  And there is another large one, but I don’t remember the name of it. There are also parking places closer to the actual event, but I don’t think they are free.

Look for “Shuttle Bus” signs or lines of people waiting for a bus. Here is what the shuttle bus sign looks like:

Before I share about the event, I want to let you know that there are actually 4 different flower festivals held at Lake Park, Goyang. There is a different one for each season:

Spring: “International Horticulture Goyang Korea”
Summer: “Lake Rose Festival”
Autumn: “Goyang Autumn Flower Festival”
Winter: “Goyang Light Blooming Festival”

This blog post is about the Spring event, which is held from April 29-May 15.

There is a lot of things to do and see at the Goyang Spring Flower Festival. But, before you can do that, you need to get admitted. So, if you want to go to where the action is, make sure you either order your tickets online, or you can go there and purchase them. Once you get in, they will give you a stamp and you can go in and out of any gate. Since I am a foreigner, I only had to pay 8,000 won for my ticket, but my wife paid the same amount, only because she ordered her ticket in advance. However, Koreans might have to pay more if they purchase a ticket on the day of the event, while foreigners still only have to pay 8,000won.

As mentioned before, there are a total of 7 gates. If you look in the image below, you’ll see that this is gate 1 and there are two separate lines. The line on the left is where ticket holders show their paper tickets and the line on the right is where people show their virtual tickets on their mobile phone. Technically, I was supposed to show my foreigner ID, but the lady at the gate didn’t ask for it.

Once you get through the gates, there are flower structures everywhere. There are so many places where you can take photos. Take photos of yourself or with loved ones. Check out this hydrangea display below.

Also, we decided to take a photo infront of this traditional looking Korean lady. And yes, those are flowers used for the design.

And here are some tulips.

And one of my favorite structures at the exhibit was a bumble bee.

After walking around outside, you definitely need to check out what is in the buildings. There are three main building/structure areas with different booths. Two of Three are pretty much attached to each other, which is the “World Trade Pavilion” that houses flower booths from all over the world and Korea, and a connected tent with flower related products.

Here is what the World Trade Pavilion looks like:

There are some magnificent structures and displays in this building. Here is a display of one of the flower displays.

And another one.

There are even flowers hanging from the ceiling, so don’t forget to look up!

And flowers from different parts of the world, like Ethiopia.

And Nepal and Sri Lanka.

Don’t forget to check the tent that is connected to the building to see flower related things. I saw some lady selling “Rose Juice”. And some people were just there to sell picture frames. You can see all types of people here because anyone can purchase a booth.

Here are some flower lamps someone was selling.

Don’t forget to go back out and see the other flower displays.

And take some pictures of yourself!

And another one!

And if you like, you can try the Flower Bicycle Boat! It costs 10,000 won for 20 minutes for two people. But, no one’s really keeping track of the time. But, don’t take my word for it.

And last but not least, don’t forget to have a little fun!
